INFORMATION ON OUR CLASSES:
Discover and nurture the artist in you at…
The Charleston Acting Studio
At The Charleston Acting Studio, our approach is tailored to training the individual student, as opposed to delivering
a general "system" to a group. Our commitment is to offer classes in a professional and positive atmosphere, where
students can gain sound experience in the discipline and art of theatre. Our workshops offer a fun way to become
more self-confident, creative, and spontaneous, while developing your acting potential.
Acting and Creative Drama classes meet once a week for six to eight weeks. The final class is a showcase
performance of scenes and monologues that have been worked on throughout the course. Family and friends are
cordially invited and encouraged to attend the showcases!

Stanislavski described acting as "truthful behavior in imaginary circumstances," and
that will be the basis of our pursuits in this class. Every actor has a way of working, or
craft if you will. Through various exercises each actor will begin to develop tools for
discovering character. Certain elements that will be covered in this class include, but
are not exclusive to: observation, physical tasks, mirroring, talking & listening,
relationship, imagination, improvisation, actions and objectives, spine work, given
circumstances, moment before, text analysis, and culminating in a scene to be
rehearsed and performed at the end of the class. This class promises to expand your
horizons, and maybe even transform your perception of what acting is.
*Mature Teens eligible by audition only.
Full payment for each class or workshop is due at registration.
Refunds will be issued for any classes or workshops canceled by Workshop Theatre.
Participants who choose to withdraw from a class must do so by 5:00 p.m. on the

Mask and Movement Workshop - Teens - Adults ~ $175
Next Class: TBA
This class is an exploration of the body's ability to communicate. The purpose of these
exercises is to expand the performer's individual and unique movement vocabulary. Our
goal is to enhance the performers ability to create character physically. This class will
focus on elements such as conditioning, movement improvisation, complimenting and
shaping space, quality of movement, center of movement, movement impulse,
redirecting movement, form explorations, and culminating in the application of full-face
character mask improvisations. These techniques have been passed down from one of
the world's foremost mask professors, Robert Francesconi, and this is a rare experience
in body awareness and physical expression. Students are encouraged to wear black,
form fitting clothes to accentuate the line of the body and create neautrality.
